Miss Puerto Rico Image is a mentoring program for young girls ages 13 to 18. Its purpose is to inspire, educate and empower the young participants to achieve their full potential. The participants are taken through an intense 6 month course which concentrates on the areas of self-esteem, personal development, confidence, diction, public speaking, organization, social behavior, cultural awareness, community service, interview skills, academic achievement, etiquette, photography and modeling. In addition the girls are taken on field trips where they are able to practice what they have learned. Experiences such as the ballet, community events, restaurants, fashion shows and workshops in self defense and healthy relationships are just to name a few.
The "final night" marks the end of their adventure and the opportunity to shine on stage in front of an audience filled with their family, friends, and members of the community. This is where they will showcase all they have learned and who they have become. Though the final night is structured much like a pageant we emphasize and make clear that this is in no way a beauty contest. It is simply a celebration where they are all made to feel special and feel proud of what they have accomplished.
At the end of the evening a panel of judges will choose a winner based on their cultural presentations, projection, personal interviews and points accumulated though out the entire course of the program. The newly crowned Miss Puerto Rico Image will then continue on to represent our center for one year, serve as a community advocate, and be a role model among her peers. Not only will she gain valuable knowledge throughout the year she will also be rewarded with many educational, cultural and life changing opportunities.
